'Vol. 1' is the debut EP from rising star Oliver Coates, known best as Coates, this West London Troubadour shows off his impressive writing and certainly marks himself as one to watch with this EP. Heavily influenced by Brit-pop the retro sound contrasts perfectly with the thought-provoking and relatable lyrics.
Although not the type of music I usually listen to, I really admire his approach to writing; Coates avoids the stereotypical love song and instead explores some aspects of today's society. The serious nature of the lyrics is disguised behind an up-beat tempo and general happy sound that can put a smile on your face.
It's music anyone can listen to and you'll find yourself liking it more and more every time you hear it.
This 4 track EP will be released September 25th and is the perfect easy-listening sound, channelling the style of bands like Oasis with a modern delivery. I would definitely recommend giving this EP a listen.
